Petronas Twin Towers Image

Petronas Twin Towers

Probably the most famous and frequently photographed Malaysian landmark, this striking building was, for a time, the world's tallest at 452m. You can queue for a ticket to visit the skybridge but you do not really need to - the best place to admire the construction is at ground level from a spot in the adjoining park known as KLCC.

A trip to the Twin Towers could include visiting the giant shopping mall (Suria KLCC) at the foot of the towers, the Petrosains museum, Aquaria (an impressive oceanarium) or even a concert at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Menara KL Tower

Standing atop the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, the 421m-high KL Tower is, at present, the world's fifth tallest structure.

Officially known as Menara KL, it has been outshone by the Petronas Twin Towers but remains an important architectural marker and boasts spectacular views of the city. The viewing deck is at least 100 metres higher than the Petronas Tower’s Skybridge - to get free tickets be sure to arrive early.

Batu Caves Image

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are a very sacred spot for Hindus in Malaysia. Hundreds of thousands of Hindus gather here every year to celebrate Thaipusam in which Hindus carry large items, such as jugs, and have body piercings with hooks to attach to other things. This is a form of penance for them.

As if climbing up the 272 steps to the caves isn’t penance enough. At the top of the stairs, visitors will find three huge limestone caves plus smaller ones filled with Hindu art and statues Visitors may want to bring peanuts or bananas for the monkeys that will greet them upon arrival.

Chinatown

The colourful Chinatown is a well-known bargain hunter’s paradise that seemingly never sleeps. Deeply immersed in Oriental culture, heritage and history, it is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia, and holds its own against its more glamorous neighbours, KLCC & Bukit Bintang.

Representing Malaysia’s multihued multicultural background perfectly, you can find all sorts of stuff, from Chinese herbs to imitation goods in this area.
